CHARACTER
Name: Annie Leonhart
Canon: Attack on Titan/Shingeki no Kyojin
Age: Appears 16.
Timeline: Post-Chapter 33
Personality: As a character, Annie is, in a word, complex. She's highly complicated, deeply flawed, and that's not even factoring in all we still don't know about her, which is quite a bit, to be honest, and it's not as if she's gone out of her way to mitigate this. As of this writing, that includes her goals, her reasons for doing what she does, her relationship with her allies, even her age is technically anyone's guess given recent revelations. However, there's a lot we do know, and plenty more we can extrapolate from that.
As a sleeper agent infiltrating the military to as-yet unknown ends, having been instructed by her father to treat humanity as her enemy, she's gone to great lengths not to form any lasting attachments. As such, she takes a deliberately quiet, detached attitude when it comes to dealing with her "comrades" in the 104th training squad, and later the Miltary Police. How much of it is manufactured for the sake of her cover and her continued sanity is debatable, but to a significant degree, considering how easily it comes to her, it's likely just how she is. She's noted to be a bad liar, after all. It's highly probable she also has a significant sadistic streak; she has the highest direct (if not necessarily overall) body count of any titan in the series, and some go beyond simply using what's handy and cross into downright cruel territory; slicing the back of Gunther's neck and spinning an unnamed soldier until his spine snapped in two spring to mind as examples.
There is, however, something of a contrast here, as she has a conscience, however hard she tries to hide it. She's seen apologizing to the dead in the wake of the Battle of Trost, and despite her efforts, she does form friendships during training, with Eren most notably. Despite standing on opposite sides of the conflict, being exactly the thing he's dedicated his life to killing, she sincerely holds respect for his beliefs and convictions, and likely even saw a bit of herself in him, even before his powers surfaced, which is almost certainly why she taught him to fight hand to hand in the first place.
Above all else, whatever it is she fights for, whatever anyone thinks of her, the thing she would seem to fear most is death. Aside from stating as much herself, her actions, from choosing to join the Military Police, to taking every available precaution to guard the back of her neck, to sealing herself inside a crystal when escape was no longer an option, point to a desire to continue living, in whatever shape and at whatever cost. Regardless of who she fights for, what matters most will always be looking out for number one. She's keenly aware of this and all her own weaknesses, moreso perhaps than anyone else. She knows herself to be corrupt, a coward, and in the wake of her capture, likely a failure as well. She doesn't lack confidence, mind you. She simply views these things as making her, ironically enough, "human."
Background: Here!
Abilities: Annie is a titan shifter. What this means is that she can take the form of a 14-meter tall giant at will. Notably, she's able to selectively harden sections of her skin, such that they become impenetrable to ordinary steel blades. Like all titans, she also has the ability to rapidly recover from any wounds that aren't immediately fatal, though uniquely, she's shown the ability to prioritize healing a specific area to minimize downtime.
She's also known to be an exceptional hand-to-hand fighter - exceptional enough as to give herself away when she uses these skills in her titan form.
First Person: Can I use dear mun posts for this?
Third Person: She was perfectly content to stay there in that crystal. She made it for a reason, after all. She'd failed her mission. For her part, she was done with all this. Whatever happened now was out of her hands, no matter what she did, and the rest of them could sort it out amongst themselves for all she cared. All that mattered was being alive when it was all over. She'd made a promise, and she couldn't keep it if she was at the military's mercy.
So it wasn't by any choice of her own that when her eyes opened, her freedom of movement had returned. Panic was her first instinct, albeit only briefly, as it quickly gave way to alertness as she assessed her surroundings. The situation wasn't a favorable one; her maneuver gear was gone, and the setting wasn't any place she was familiar with. It was like a metal tunnel, lined with seats and windows - not at all the dungeon she'd expect to be taken to. Still, she remained on her guard, prepared for a fight if necessary. Something about the atmosphere felt unshakably... off, as though she was being watched.
The ground rumbled constantly beneath her feet, as though the corridor itself was moving. It was only when she looked out one of the windows, however, that the accuracy of that assessment became apparent. The scenery, equally unfamiliar to her, was like nothing she'd ever seen, as though she'd been taken far outside the boundaries of the walls. Indeed, they were nowhere to be seen, something Annie couldn't help but find mildly unsettling. No walls, no titans, nothing she could count as familiar to her. The thought that Eren would probably love a place like this passed fleetingly through her mind, but it was too alien for comfort from her point of view.
She glanced aside, trying to assess the destination of whatever this container was supposed to be. Up ahead, as best she could tell, was some sort of population center. It seemed relatively deserted, as best she could tell, but it was maintained enough that there were likely some holdouts, and after all, the vehicle was sure to be taking her somewhere. Somewhere with people. People she'd likely have to deal with.
It wasn't a thought she relished.
